Resume Writing Certification
Requirement Information

Certified resume writers must meet specific requirements to become a credentialed resume writing professional. Each resume writing certification has its own set of rules and regulations and is granted by a professional career organization. Credentialing requirement information is provided below for your review.

All resume writing credentials and organizational memberships are verified by CertifiedResumeWriters.com.

CPRW – Certifying Organization - Professional Association of Resume Writers & Career Coaches

Resume writers possessing the CPRW credential must pass a timed examination consisting of four modules, testing writer’s industry knowledge and understanding of the resume writing field, his/her command for grammar, punctuation, spelling and proofreading, and skills in strategic thinking on resume related issues. The writer is also required to develop a resume and cover letter based upon background information of a hypothetical client provided by the PARW/CC Certification Committee Board.

Certification examinations are reviewed and graded by three CPRWs who are members of the Certification Committee Board. Organizational membership of writer is required to maintain the CPRW credential. The CPRW credential was established in 1991 and is recognized as the standard of the industry.

NCRW – Certifying Organization - National Resume Writers’ Association

A resume writer possessing the NCRW credential must meet 10 continuing education requirements (CEUs) to begin the certification process. The writer submits a sample resume and cover letter, which is reviewed by two members of the Certification Commission. If the work reflects NCRW standards, the member may take the test, which is graded by a team of three NCRWs.

To earn the NCRW certification the writer must demonstrate a high level of expertise in resume writing, cover letter composition, proofreading, and electronic resume preparation. Once the member has achieved the NCRW designation, that member must obtain approved CEUs in order to maintain the certification. The certification is renewable every three years as long as the requirements have been met. The CEU requirement for renewal assures that NCRWs are among the most knowledgeable career industry professionals in areas impacting job search and personal marketing.

MRW – Certifying Organization - Career Thought Leaders Consortium

The MRW credential is designed specifically for resume writing professionals who have reached the top tier of their industry by demonstrating expertise in:

1. Resume Strategy Development
2. Resume Writing & Content Development
3. Resume Formatting, Design & Presentation
4. English Language & Grammar

To apply for the MRW, professional resume writers must submit a portfolio that documents their resume writing and strategy expertise, and must complete a 40-page English language and grammar test. In addition, each individual must have a minimum of 5 years of paid professional resume writing experience to be considered for this certification. [Return to Top]

ACRW – Certifying Organization - Resume Writing Academy

To earn the ACRW certification, writers must participate in the comprehensive Resume Writing Academy flagship training program. It comprises eight teleseminar classes covering all facets of resume strategy, writing, and design; English language and grammar skills; and cover letter and thank-you letter writing. Each class includes a relevant homework assignment that is carefully reviewed, with detailed feedback provided to students. After successfully passing the final assignment, students complete three independent learning programs (ILPs), each a resume and cover letter writing assignment that is thoroughly reviewed, critiqued, and graded. Successful completion of all three ILPs is the final step in earning the ACRW.

All final assignments are graded by both Wendy Enelow and Louise Kursmark. A grade of B or better in all assignments is required; writers whose efforts fall below that mark are given two additional opportunities to rewrite and resubmit their work. Because each assignment is returned with detailed feedback, the ACRW certification process is a tremendous learning experience that was designed to be applicable both to beginning writers and to experienced writers who want to strengthen the breadth and depth of their expertise.

The ACRW is awarded by the Resume Writing Academy in recognition of having successfully completed a rigorous 3-month training program and demonstrating mastery of the key skills and concepts essential for producing best-in-class resumes.
